Ringed Racing Fun is a free racing game that, despite looking 3D, is a 2D game. The two-dimensional perspective may fool some players, but car models are clearly 2D and that affects the driving. Unfortunately, it’s not as fun as it could be.
The player starts by creating his profile and then entering the tournament, where he’ll race in several tracks across different settings: beach, forest, ice and city. Some tracks are also played in reverse mode, a strategy to make the game look longer than it is. It’s quite short, actually, but the medium difficulty setting can be quite challenging.
As the player wins races (first place mandatory to progress) he unlocks new and faster cars (only four in total). These will be most important since our rivals also get the best cars and don’t usually make mistakes. Tracks are generally surrounded by obstacles so there are no shortcuts to take, but these barriers also slow down your car. Gems can be collected to add to the score.
But racing isn’t exactly fun. Steering is far from precise, something that could be fixed were the car models in 3D. And collisions are weird and unconvincing, making it difficult to see what exactly is going on in the whole mess.
A split-screen two-player mode could add to the fun, but there isn’t one to be seen. What we have is a good looking racer that could entertain for an hour or so, but its flaws get in the way of the intended fun.
Overall: 4/10
