When you first start GeneRally you’ll probably be drawn away by its menus. They look extremely cheap and are probably responsible for scaring quite some players. And it’s a damn shame since they will lose on one of the most addictive free PC racing games.
GeneRally is reminiscent of classics like 3D Stock Car Racing or Super Off-Road and a lot of other games where the race track fits entirely in a single screen. The bigger the tracks are, the smaller the cars, to the point where they look just like tiny colored blobs. Despite the simple track and car graphics everything fits nicely together and doesn’t get in the way of playing. You can choose from different vehicles, like Formula 1, Kart or Rally, change their color and even set the AI level, from 0 to 255. Up to 6 players can race simultaneously, keeping an eye on damage, fuel consumption and tyre wear meters, stopping at the pit to make the car brand new once again.
But GeneRally isn’t just about racing in the existent tracks. The included track editor is about as easy to use as Paint and allows for new circuits to be created in a matter of minutes. The huge community already created a fair share of content, resulting in a game that has a lot to offer. Since racing these tiny cars is really addictive, especially on multiplayer, GeneRally is highly recommended. Shame about those intuitive but ugly menus, though.
