You’re a Class D, a researcher that is in fact little more than a disposable asset for the Foundation, until one day something goes horribly wrong and you’re left alone in the facility, hiding from the mystical entities that now roam free and kill everything that gets in their way. You’re alone, unprepared, it’s dark and the creatures have supernatural abilities specific to each of them that will make you feel like a rat in a maze… with several cats hunting you down.
Your goal is simply to get out alive, but things won’t be simple. First and foremost, SCP has a randomly generated map, so no two playthroughs are the same. Secondly, you have to search the facility to discover what happened and what you can do to fix it.
The main, terrifying enemy of SCP Containment Breach is SCP-173, a weird, statue thing that could make you laugh hard until it snaps your neck. It moves without you noticing, but it can't move while within a direct line of sight. So, the trick is to blink only when away from the creature and to make a perfect management of the blink meter, timing the blinks correctly. It’s a nice mechanic that adds greatly to the sense of being hunted by a supernatural creature. There are also other SCPs on the loose for you to lookout for, as well as obstacles such as smoke, locked doors and more.
While SCP Containment Breach is still in its early alpha version, what we have is more than enough to scare us for good. It’s one of the most scary free indie games available, relying on a constant tension that will manage to surprise even the most confident player. Hopefully, the finished version will feature a lot more SCPs, new locations and items, realizing the huge potential of the game.
