Senior Year is a visual novel described by author Ewan Grantham as a story of love, relationships, and fun. And he’s right on the money. To call it a dating sim would also be appropriate, since the player gets to meet a handful of beautiful girls, quickly fall in love and live happily ever after. If only life was that easy...
We never get to see the protagonist’s face, but that’s not a problem since there’s a lot of eye candy, more specifically the girls. They are mostly forthcoming, acting as if the player is the last man on earth. And he may well be, since there are no rivals to be found! Becky, Linda, Julie and others share only one trait, beauty, since their personalities are completely distinct. Becky is the pretty and insinuating waitress, Julie works at the school library and is a mysterious girl, and so on.
The player gets to choose to focus on one girl and take the relationship to the next step, ending the game, or just wait and explore the other paths. It’s all over in about 20 minutes, but absolutely begging for another playthrough. More than one, actually.
Graphics are nice, and although not all girls look like top models, they do the job convincingly. Contrary to the player, they are fully voiced, although sound quality isn’t great, since background noise is quite audible. The scenery is colorful and pictures are mostly well chosen.
Senior Year delivers what it promised, and we have a story of love and relationships. It’s fun for a while if you’re into the visual novel thing, but it’s nothing more than an interesting distraction.
